Should We Sign A Striker?

The transfer rumours are circulating faster than I can eat a pie from St Andrews, but where do we really need to see new additions?

I believe that the best teams in the league are those who can outscore an opponent. Watford were marvellous at this last season and it goes to show that with a quality striker, the rest of the team can benefit hugely.

Donaldson is our best striker and I don’t think many Blues’ fans will disagree. But he isn’t a good lone striker, in my view. He holds the ball up and feeds the midfield like he is feeding ducks at a pond. But his goals have mostly come from being a poacher, in the box where crosses are launched into.

A complimentary strike partner would be that of an individual who is sharp and quick; someone who can burst onto Clayton’s knock downs. As an unrealistic possibility, I would like to see Andre Gray at the club but the chance of this happening is almost as slim as our editor Chris winning the fantasy football.

So Lassad would be an option. He is a 29 year old striker currently playing in Japan, but has previously played for Celtic and would be available on a free transfer. This minimizes the risk of a player not living up to the billing of a transfer tag but it also means that the money conscious board may be willing to give him a try.

Not the best finisher, it must be said, but he has the ability to link all parts of the pitch almost effortlessly.

Many people have suggested that we bring in one of the Wolves due Afobe or Sako. I agree this would be a great move for the club and with proven championship form, they both would fit the bill. They also both helped Wolves virtually on their own to an astonishingly high finish in the Championship. In terms of availability, this may be difficult, with many Premier League sides interested.

Who would be your ideal striker for the Blues to bring in?
