Should Blues try an ambitious bid for Newcastle forward?

After Blues’ acting director Panos Pavlakis hinted that there could be some interesting developments coming from Hong Kong sometime in the very near future, I thought I would take a look at one player who Birmingham City should push the boat out for.

Newcastle United forward Rolando Aarons is sure to be one of the hottest properties on the free transfer market this summer, but at the tender age of 20, there is sure to be a compensation fee involved.

However, I believe that that shouldn’t put Blues and Gary Rowett off making a move for the youngster who was back in February reportedly being chased by Arsenal and AC Milan.

Over the past two years, Aarons has only made 17 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies which suggests that they haven’t been able to see his full potential and unfortunately for them, contract talks stalled back in February and they haven’t progressed any further which means at the end of June, the academy man will leave the club.

For me, Aarons is somebody that Blues should be ‘breaking the bank’ for because I believe he would improve the team drastically. Last week, we highlighted him as one of the players that Rowett should attempt to bring in and if he isn’t top of his most wanted list then I would be a very surprised journalist.

The compensation fee that would have to be settled would most probably be around the £700,000 mark because that is what he is valued at but I think he would be an absolute steal for Blues at that price because I feel like he could really improve our squad.

I know some of you are asking, but where does he fit in? Well, if we managed to secure him on a four year deal, it would mean that he has plenty of time to progress and given our track record with young wingers, I am sure he would see the club as a platform to bigger things.

He may be an unproven talent to the untrained eye but given the right guidance, Aarons could have a very bright future and for me I believe Birmingham City and the Sky Bet Championship is the right place for him.
