Birmingham City defender David Edgar has signed for League One side Sheffield United according to their official website.

The Blades got demolished 4-0 at the weekend and manager Nigel Adkins has already moved into the loan market, with the Canadian defender joining the side on a season long loan from the Blues.

According to earlier reports in the Sheffield Telegraph online, the Blues defender had emerged as one of the top targets for United but no official comment had been made. However, United have now confirmed the deal to take Edgar on loan for the season.

Edgar, who didn’t feature in the opening day win against Reading on Saturday, spent half of last season on loan at fellow Championship club Huddersfield Town and he is now set for yet another spell away from St.Andrews.

The versatile player can play anywhere across the back line and also in midfield but it is believed that during his time at Sheffield he will be predominantly used as a central defender after the League One side conceded three goals from set pieces in their opening day defeat to Gillingham.

Having signed for the Blues last summer, the 28 year old former Newcastle United player only managed 16 appearances in a royal blue shirt last year, scoring one goal in the process.

Blues fans, what do you make of this Edgar transfer? Are you happy to see him leave? Or do you think it is a silly move by Rowett considering the clubs current shortage of defenders? Who would you like to see the club bring in as a replacement for the Canadian defender? Let us know in the comment section down below!
