Scottish Playmaker Effectively Rules Out Birmingham Switch

|

Barry Bannan has committed his future to Sheffield Wednesday after stating he wants to see out his career at the Owls.

The Sheffield Star still believe that both us and Middlesbrough are “admirers” of the Scottish international but it seems the 28-year-old wants to stay put at Hillsborough.

The playmaker has just one year left on his contract at the club, prompting speculation he could move on, but he is confident of extending his current deal:

“I know I’ve got a year left on my contract but there is plenty of time to sort it out. I’ve made it clear I want to finish my career here if I can. I love it here. I’m just focused on doing what’s right for me and doing what’s right for the club. I want to play football and stay at this club.”

I know many would have been against us signing Bannan anyway due to his previous associations with Villa. Still, we do need a creative midfield player to improve our record in front of goal next season.

We certainly improved in the final third under Garry Monk in the last two months of the campaign, but we do need to strengthen in attacking areas.

I’m sure the manager knows this, but his hands may be tied due to the reported transfer embargo situation. Would you have wanted Bannan at St Andrew’s? Let me know in the poll:
