Sadler Denies Crisis

Matt Sadler has today declared that there is no crisis in the Blues ranks after the hiccup defeats and Upson debacle.

Speaking to the Mail, Sadler said:

‘I’m not concerned at all, of course, we’re not top of the league any more and fighting to keep teams off our backs.

‘But we’re not worried about it. There are 17 games to go for us, 51 points to play for, and I think everyone saw some very good signs on Saturday at Colchester United.

‘Some people might think it’s all gone wrong when you look at where we were and where we are now. But we know that’s not the case.

‘It doesn’t help that this league is all about momentum, if you win four or five games on the spin, like Derby and Albion have, and like we did a couple of months ago, then you suddenly fly up towards the top.

‘Because of the postponements we’ve had, there was possibly more pressure on us in the games we did play last month.

‘That didn’t help but, like I said, at Col-chester we played very well and to me that suggested we can turn the season around again. The three up front have been excellent for us.

‘They are very, very good players. It’s been noticed when Macca hasn’t been scoring, but that’s not going to last long, especially with the other two together again.

‘Nicklas is a full Danish international and Cameron’s been called-up by England under-21s. And there was talk that Macca had a chance of the full England side, but that didn’t materialise.

‘They are all capable of going on to big things, and we’ve seen what they are capable for us this season.

‘They’ve got a great blend with Nicklas’s intelligence, Cameron’s pace and Macca’s potency, whether it be his goals or ability to create for others.

‘And I’m not discounting the other two either. Rowan Vine has scored goals this season for Luton and DJ Campbell has done his bit and also delivered.

‘Such firepower like that is going to be massive for us between now and the end of the season – and I don’t think there’s anything as good in the league.’

Speaking on the Upson nonsense, he said:

‘Personally, I’ve distanced myself from all of this, I haven’t let it affect me at all. I’ve tried to perform as well as I can do whether Matty, Radhi or Tiny’s beside me.

‘Matty was a big name in the dressing room and of course we’re disappointed that he went. No-one wanted to see him leave.

‘But people move on, people move in – I’m sure Luton must be talking about the same things after losing Rowan to us.

‘You can’t underplay the ability of Matty Upson, but you can say that when the defence was marshalled by Tiny and Radhi we went on that run and kept five successive clean sheets.

‘On Saturday they kept the most productive partnership (29-goal Chris Iwelumo and Jamie Cureton) in the league quiet.

‘So it’s not all doom and gloom and the bandwagon can get rolling again.
