Earlier today, Wednesday June 8th, Scottish Premier League side Celtic confirmed that striker Anthony Stokes had left the club and he is now free to enter talks with other sides.

It has been reported in the previous two weeks or so that Birmingham City had taken a fancying to the services of Stokes, but in recent developments, it now looks like they will be facing stiff competition if they want to bring him to St.Andrews.

New Rotherham United boss Alan Stubbs was quoted just hours before Stokes was released saying: ‘I wouldn’t rule out an interest in Anthony Stokes. But we wouldn’t be on our own.’

Judging by this, Stubbs who managed Stokes last season during a successful spell with Hibernian, is fully aware that there is interest in the 27-year-old from other clubs in the Sky Bet Championship but that isn’t going to stop him going after the striker.

During his time with the Scottish giants, Stokes made 192 appearances in all competitions, scoring an impressive 77 goals, and the club have wished him all the best for whatever the future may hold for him.

Other Championship sides such as Blackburn Rovers and Brentford have reportedly registered an interest in the former Arsenal and Sunderland man, so if he was to become Blues’ first signing in the summer transfer window then we will have beaten off some stiff competition for him.
