Gary Rowett has revealed that he will rotate his team if he needs to should he feel that one or two need a rest after the Derby game.

The Birmingham boss is facing a headache as his Blues team embark on a busy Christmas period against two top teams.

Blues don’t have the strength in depth that most teams enjoy and rotating certain parts of the team could be costly to the way the team plays.

“We will take the first game as it comes, we will try to win or be as competitive as we can, and we`ll assess it afterwards,”

“You don’t want to interfere unnecessarily. I have done it before where I have kept the same team and got results over this period.

“And I have done it before where my gut feeling is to rest one or two and to mix both teams up but stay quite strong and I have had conflicting results. We have won games and we have lost games.

“The ones when you lose them you think ‘I shouldn’t have changed the team’. Or if you keep the same team and lose you feel like you should have changed the team, so you can’t win.

“You can only go off what you feel is right.

“I think a lot of the team selection for both games will be around getting players through this period, which sounds bizarre because it’s only two games in three days.

“Maybe one or two might get a rest the weekend after (for the FA Cup tie at Blyth Spartans).

“I don’t think it’s too ridiculous, I just think we have got to be quite sensible in our approach and make sure we get through these games as competitively and as safely as we possibly can.”

Should Rowett be able to I would suspect that he is going to want to keep the same team together if they get yet another impressive result against Derby.

The next game is certainly a difficult one, but we have said that time and time again only for Birmingham to retrieve a fantastic result.

I expect a solid performance and stable selection on the team sheet.
