Gary Rowett has revealed that he wants to go as far as he can in the FA cup this season and believes he has a squad big enough to do just that.

“We want to go as far as we can in The Cup,”

“In all competitions, we have enough players, something like 30 professionals, and have enough bodies and experience to be competitive in this competition and the league.

Playing more rounds in the FA cup would be a good way for Birmingham to get more of their squad involved with good competitive football again. Some players had sat our for up to 8 weeks before Blyth v Birmingham.

“A Cup run is great for the club. We want to become a team where winning becomes a habit.

“You can`t just pick and choose the games you win, you have to keep them standards all the time and continue to do the right things in games.

“That is all the players within the squad, and they have to keep doing that.”

“I played in that Leicester City side which lost to Wycombe when Roy Essandoh, who they signed from Teletext, scored the winner. I`ve seen how it works, and at Burton Albion I`ve been on the other foot.

The game showed that no matter how much preparation goes into the game, and there was a lot, the players have to do the job on the day. Once you’re over that white line there’s not much else to it.

“So I wouldn`t say I was always confident, but the game is about 90 minutes. I wasn`t happy, and I felt that 2-0 was a little bit harsh on us, and you just hope that the players can respond.”

“The team were a little bit quiet at half time, and at that point I was a little bit worried, but they came out, picked themselves up and showed a little bit of desire.

“A thousand amazing fans travelled up to Blyth and I asked the players to send them home with something to smile about.

“I just thought it was a brilliant afternoon and what this competition is about.”

The FA cup draw is tonight, and with Rowett in charge, Birmingham fans have every right to be excited, no matter who they draw.
