Rowett still learning, but Blues are lucky to have him

Social media is always useful for gathering opinions on a subject. These onions aren`t necessarily in line with my own, but everyone is entitled to them. So when scrolling through Twitter today, I saw a comment suggesting ‘Gary Rowett is an average manager with a lot to learn`.

This comment was made in defiance of a previous comment saying ‘Blues are lucky to have Gary Rowett as manager`, which I totally agree with.

I also agree that he has a lot to learn but to pass him off as ‘average` is disrespectful considering the way he has turned Blues around since taking the reins in November 2014.

Has anyone ever claimed that Rowett is ‘world class` and that he has mastered the management game? I certainly haven`t heard such a statement which leads me to ask why the ‘average` comment was required.

We know Rowett has a lot to learn, as most managers do. Pep Guardiola, considered one of the best managers in the world, admits he has a lot to learn as he embarks upon his first job in English football. Jose Mourinho would also be the first to admit that he is still learning about his new Manchester United team.

So saying Rowett has ‘a lot to learn` is stating the bleeding obvious.

However, we are extremely lucky to have such a promising manager at the helm. Rowett`s stock is very high and if he was to leave St. Andrews, would Blues realistically find a more capable manager?

Maybe our expectations of a play-off place should be phased down a little. Maybe we should accept the reality that we are a building club rather than top-flight ready club. And maybe we should cast our minds back a couple of years before Rowett took the job and remember how lucky we are.
