Rowett Steps-Up Recruitment Plans

The search for new players is set to intensify as Gary Rowett and his scouting team step-up their summer recruitment plans.

Robert Tesche has been the only new arrival thus far after signing on a free transfer after his contract at Nottingham Forest expired. But Rowett is aiming for at least another three players before the start of the 2016/17 season in August.

It is understood that Blues missed out on signing Blackburn Rovers left-back Tommy Spurr who joined Preston North End on Monday. The 28 year-old was a target for Blues but had already agreed a deal with Preston before Rowett contacted the 28 year-old`s representatives.

Rowett is keen on signing a left-back as competition for Jonathan Grounds, now Blues` only left sided full-back after the release of Mitch Hancox. However, the position is not an absolute priority.

Numerous strikers have been linked with a switch to St. Andrew`s in recent weeks but nothing is yet concrete, although Rowett remains adamant that ‘one or two things are close`.

Sone Aluko was one of the names bandied about. Rowett has enquired about the 27 year-old but has not yet put an offer together and may instead turn to the loan market for goals.

Elsewhere, Ryan Shotton is expected enter talks with the club over the coming days.
