Gary Rowett, understandably, will be linked with various managerial vacancies at other clubs over the course of the summer. But Blues fans and everyone connected with the club should take it as a compliment.

Whilst Rowett`s stock is high, it means Blues are doing well. When teams such as Derby and Fulham stop looking at our manager is when we should worry.

Derby County, currently preparing for their play-off showdown against Hull City, are now under the stewardship of former Blues defender Darren Wassall. Wassall is relatively inexperienced in the management game but has steadied the ship at Pride Park and held comfortably on to a top six place when another implosion seemed to be on the cards.

Wassall will be hailed a hero if he leads the Rams back into the big time and it would be extremely harsh to sack him if they narrowly miss out. Sources from the East Midlands suggest Wassall will be staying on for another season.

In football, managers do not only change jobs in the summer and Wassall cannot afford a slow start to next season, assuming Derby remain in the Championship. Rowett will continue to be linked with the Derby job, another club he played for, until a concrete announcement is made by the club.

However, Rowett certainly isn`t giving off the aura of a man who is weighing up his next role. The ball is already rolling in the transfer market – he is looking to bring players into St. Andrew`s to improve Blues` chances next season. And a club source claims that Rowett is ‘loving the job` at Blues.

With the long awaited takeover edging closer, the club will be moving in the right direction off the pitch as well as on it and the Blues manager is fully aware of that.

Rowett is planning for the next two years at Blues and recently spoke about leading the club into the Premiership ‘whether that takes one year or five`.

All Blues fans can do is weather the forthcoming rumour storm and cross their fingers.
