Gary Rowett extended his unbeaten run as boss to three games after drawing 0-0 with Cardiff at his second home game.
Former Blues loanee Federico Macheda had the ball in the net early on but that was ruled out for offside. Wes Thomas also stabbed home for the home side only to be chalked off for offside as well. Blues will rest easy during the international break knowing they have another point on the board.
Blues finished the game with ten men after Thomas saw red for an off the ball incident with Sean Morrison.
David Cotterill’s shot was the first attempt worthy of mention, but he couldn’t direct the effort on target.
Pilkington did force a save out of Randolph, who got down to his right hand side. Le Fondre continued his poor form by missing with a close range shot.
Cardiff continued to threaten shortly after as Macheda found space in the box, Robinson got across to deflect the ball just enough.
Randolph then produced a brilliant save at the end of the half to deny Macheda an opening goal.

Randolph was in action again early on in the second half. He blocked a shot into the path of Macheda who slotted home. He was ruled to be offside.
Rowett brought on Thomas and Gray to try and stem the tide in Birmingham’s favour. On the 64th minute Thomas had the ball in the net. Gray did well to whip a ball into the box and it was again ruled out. Thomas appeared level.
Blues also had a penalty shout turned down as Gray’s shot appeared to hit the hand of Matthew Connolly on the hand. Gray would again have a glorious chance to score but put his shot right at Marhsall.
Donaldson finally wasted a brilliant chance after being put through in the dying minutes. He snatched at the shot and put it terribly wide.
Wes Thomas was then dismissed for an off the ball incident with Sean Morrison which left the defender needing treatment.
