Gary Rowett has, predictably, been linked with the vacant managerial role at Derby County, one of his former clubs. But Blues fans should take it as a compliment – after all, it means he is doing a very good job.

Wouldn`t it be more worrying if other clubs weren`t supposedly looking at our manager? Wouldn`t it be more worrying if other clubs wouldn`t consider touching our gaffer with a Nikola Zigic sized barge pole?

Of course, there isn`t concrete evidence that Derby actively want Rowett. He spent three years at Derby as a player, lives in a Derbyshire village (next door to departing Rams boss Paul Clement) and is exceeding all expectations in his current role. The media will, understandably, put two and two together and hopefully get five.

I`m not meaning to tout him to potential prey but Rowett is a superb man-manager with decent tactical nous. He comes across fantastically well in interviews (one of his predecessors biggest downfalls) and his transfer track record has largely been successful. Why wouldn`t teams look at him?

His record at Blues since taking charge in November 2014 speaks volumes of his ability. The players certainly think a lot of him and respect him as coach as do his close-nit back room team (mainly Kevin Poole, Kevin Summerfield and Mark Sale).

In the future, Rowett is destined for a Premier League dugout. Whether that be with Blues remains to be seen. But one thing is clear – when the day comes that he leaves his Wast Hills office for the last time, he would be leaving Birmingham City in a far better state than he found it.
