Birmingham City allowed the Lee Clark factor to get under their skin for their defeat this weekend according to Gary Rowett.

Birmingham let their standards drop in the first game that they were expected to win. Until now spectators were taking each game at face value as they weighed up Rowett’s Birmingham.

Clark’s presence provided a distraction for some players, sapping their confidence, said Rowett. Which would coincide with the dominant presence Clark apparently had in the dressing room at Birmingham.

Focusing on his own side, Birmingham were not positive enough with the ball and the manager wanted to see more see a lot sooner.

Rowett believes that Birmingham will be back to normal once Andy Shinnie can shake off his ankle injury. Lee Novak was used to replace him but failed to live up to the task in the centre role.

Finally it seemed that Rowett would have just liked some more attacking options on the bench to change the game. That will be available next week as he welcomes back Wes Thomas and Nikola Zigic.
