Birmingham gave Derby far too much respect, that was the message from Gary Rowett after watching his team lose 4-0 against a clinical Derby County.

Derby’s movement caused Birmingham problems and they took their chances well, said Rowett. He gambled second half to get back into the game and it was a risk worth taking at that point, he continued.

Rowett also felt the conditions could have played into their hands with Zigic, but was disappointed in the way in which Birmingham tried to chase the game. A lack of quality balls to the big man.

The third goal killed the game conceded Rowett. Although against the run of the play, he thought they killed the game.

The manager made no apologies for being brave and chasing the game, he seemed to accept that at times that will get a result or lose you goal difference.

Birmingham travel to Nottingham Forest next hoping that this Derby game hasn’t taken too much out of the legs of the players.

In term’s of the scoreline, it would have been nice to protect the goals conceded column a bit more as we can’t afford too many more 4-0 scorelines. But with that said, being at home probably made up the manager’s mind to continue pressing for a goal.
