Rowett Kept Calm at Half Time

Birmingham City found themselves 2-0 down at half time to a team 120 places below them in the leagues. After the break they turned it round and after just 12 minutes were 3-2 up.

Rowett did not feel the need to blast his players at half time, though.

I could have gone in at half time and thrown the tea cups at them and said look we are a technically better team and should pass them off the park but on a pitch like that it`s a very tough thing to do, and we had to just get the ball in the right areas and play from there.

I felt we were much better in the second half, and although there might be a big gulf in divisions some of our players haven`t played in two months and were rusty, but it`s nice to give the lads that played an opportunity to prove themselves.

Instead the manager reminded the players that many Blues fans had traveled to see them, and kept his cool, understanding that shouting at un-matchfit players probably wouldn’t make them any better.

Well it worked and Rowett has yet another notch on his belt with the Blues fans. Another showing that his Blues teams can respond to being down at half time.

Is there anything he can do wrong at the moment? it is all going so well.

From what I have observed, what the manager say’s in interviews goes down very well. His communication of what he wants from the players and the game is clear.

He doesn’t expect or promise things, but he does get work rate and sensible tactical play from the players and it really has lifted the place.

Communication is a key skill in any line of work and it would seem, so far, that Rowett is very good at it.
