Former Ipswich Town midfielder Jay Tabb was in talks with Blues over a move to St. Andrews in the summer. The move didn’t materialise after Robert Tesche signed on the dotted line meaning Gary Rowett turned his attentions to other positions.

The 32 year-old was released from Portman Road at the end of last season and is yet to find pastures new despite talks with several clubs.

Rowett wanted a midfielder who can occupy a number of different roles. Tabb is a good player maker and can also sit and hold in a similar fashion to Tesche.

But after the success of Tesche’s loan spell in March 2015, Rowett was eager to bring the German back as soon as his contract at Nottingham Forest expired. And with Blues overwhelmingly wanting Tesche to return, Rowett got the deal done.

Tabb is an established Championship player and continues to talk to possible new employers.
