Rowett and the Rumour Mill

Finally, Gary Rowett has spoken. The Blues manager used his press conference today to say he is ‘incredibly focused` on his job and said ‘there is nothing else to add`. Hardly a denial of Fulham`s interest, but it`ll do for now.

Whether Fulham have made, or intend to make, an approach for Rowett`s services has neither been confirmed nor denied by either club. The rumour mill was in overdrive, and why? Because bookies shortened the odds? Because the Daily Express said Rowett was a gonner?

I saw Tweets from Blues fans to Panos Pavlakis saying that he had to speak out about the situation or they would ‘lose respect for him`. Why? Do the clubs hierarchy have to make a statement on every little bit of newspaper speculation? It`d become a full time job if they did.

Speculation can be poisonous. I even read a Tweet calling Rowett a ‘traitor`, but let`s just say the word actually used wouldn`t have been in the English dictionary.

As far as Blues fans are concerned, Rowett is staying. At least for now. And until we hear otherwise, there is no need to discuss ‘what if Chris Powell got the job` or ‘oh my god Lee Clark is coming back`.
