Rowet on Rolling Deal

Gary Rowett and his staff all having one year rolling contracts just like Lee Clark and Chris Hughton had during their time at the club.

It would seem this is common practice at Birmingham now as this marks the third time this type of contract has been used. It may be the preferred option as it means that any sharp success is probably going to go unrewarded with a dramatic wage increase.

Instead with a rolling deal the club can set a standard pay increase into the deal that will roll on each year. A much clearer projection on cost.

A rolling deal also presents the club with 12 months protection if a bigger club were to come in for the manager. He can never leave for free as he will always have 12 months remaining on the deal. He could resign but that still presents some compensation issues.

Rowett has said he is here for the long term, so a rolling deal probably suited him down to the ground as well. It is a challenge to say the least here at Birmingham, and it may seem that Rowett will be given the time to do it.
