Robinson Reveals Clark Reservations

Paul Robinson has revealed that Lee Clark’s passion in the end was probably his downfall with the players as they lost faith in him.

The Birmingham skipper made it clear that he likes Lee Clark before explaining that his passion sometimes came across intimidating to players.

I pointed out such a point after some of his crazy outbursts on the touch line. A manager out of control of his emotions is not someone who spreads confidence and trust through his players. You have to know when to blow your lid, and it is not often – Just ask Peter Pannu.

It has also been revealed that, in Robinson’s opinion, there was a communication break down between some players and Lee Clark. They felt like they had not been told why they weren’t playing or what they could do to get in the team.

There are two aspects to selection, talent and merit. Ideally you would like both and each point has to be made to the players. It’s how to install a feeling of justice and fairness into a team. Challenge the players to make the team, to show you their talent and then reward it by picking them (merit).

It is no wonder, after hearing what Robinson has had to say, that the results were only getting worse. Despite a talented squad it would seem that the players had lost confidence in their manager and he had probably lost confidence in them.

Birmingham would claim they sacked Clark at the right time, and it would be silly to argue with them against that. Under Rowett the Blues have risen above many tough opponents and there is honestly no telling what they can achieve until they come unstuck somewhere.
