Robert Tesche – the Sound of Silence

With the transfer activity well underway at St. Andrew`s, there`s very little noise coming from the club regarding Robert Tesche. The German, who spent two months of last season on loan from Nottingham Forest, has been targeted by Gary Rowett as a priority. But it`s now July 6th and still no sign of Tesche holding a Blues scarf.

The 28 year-old, who made 12 appearances for the club last term, has been the one that Bluenoses have eagerly awaited. But whether the hold-up is due to Forest boss Dougie Freedman running the rule on all of his players during pre-season, or whether the two clubs have failed to reach an agreement, is unclear. But since Rowett confirmed he was looking to bring him in permanently back in May, the only Tesche related sound has been one of silence.

If Blues had given up their pursuit of the player, I`d expect an announcement via their official website, but nothing has so far been said which leads me to believed we are still in for the player. Tesche is on a reported £30k a week at the City Ground which may be another stumbling block in obtaining his signature. But Rowett would have been fully aware of his contractual situation when taking him on loan, so realistically wouldn`t have put the feelers out for a deal the club couldn`t fork out for.

Over the course of this week, I fully expect some movement on the Tesche front, whether he signs or not. With the club working to bring in a player so badly wanted by the fans, communication from the club would be nice.

Why is Tesche so highly rated by Blues fans? With him in the team, Blues` ball retention was a lot higher and, alongside Stephen Gleeson, Blues were a better passing side to watch – easier on the eye. I`d love nothing more than to see the Gleeson – Tesche partnership again next season.
