Robbo v Spector

Luke Turner has his say on the centre back spot up for grabs…

Something Gary Rowett will have to decide on for our next fixture away at Charlton is who to partner Michael Morrison at centre back.

Paul Robinson started 12 consecutive games until Jonathan Spector was recently recalled for the derby against Wolves.

The American then kept his place as Fulham visited St Andrews last Saturday, so who should be the man for the job for the remaining nine games?

Personally, I prefer Robinson due to his passion, commitment, the way he organises and also the way he adds balance to the side being a left footer.

Spector, on the other hand, seems a lot more less natural in that left sided centre back position and I find him to be quite dodgy when playing there.

There is no doubt that he can be calm and composed on the ball at times be he can be extremely wayward with his clearances and quite indecisive when moving infield.

Of course, Robbo also has his faults. His pace being the most notable one. He is 38-years-old now and isn’t getting any younger or quicker.

With eight games coming up in April, it is almost certain that he won’t be able to complete every one of those.

Rowett probably had that busy month in mind when he brought Spector back into the fold. It allowed him to feel his way back into the side so that he can be ready when needed.

So, I don’t think it’s a case of who is going to make that position their own from now until the end of the season.

I believe that we could see some chopping and changing from Rowett and, so, both Robbo and Spector should get their equal share of games.

If I were going to pick between the two then I would start Robinson but this upcoming hectic schedule suggests that he may not be quite cut out for playing every few days.

Hence, this is the reason why both players need to be on their toes, readily available when called upon as I believe they both have a crucial part to play in this end of season run in.
