Rival Prepared To Pay Club Record To Beat Birmingham For 16-Goal Frontman

|

Sheffield United have offered £5m for Ipswich striker Martyn Waghorn, according to the Daily Star journalist David Woods.

The Blades have reportedly made several bids for the 28-year-old, who scored 16 goals and provided 13 assists in the Championship last campaign.

The website TWTD previously reported that we were interested in signing Waghorn, although there has been no indication that we have looked to challenge our Championship rival by making an offer of our own.

It is believed that we did offer in the region of £5m for Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban before he opted to make the switch to Nottingham Forest so a bid to match Sheffield United’s isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

However, the reported transfer embargo is looming large over the club’s transfer business, and it isn’t known when or if the club will be able to resolve the situation with the EFL.

In an ideal world, I think a move for Waghorn would be a good idea. He’s an industrious centre-forward who can score goals and contribute assists. Someone like that would fit perfectly into Garry Monk’s system.

Should we challenge the Blades for the Ipswich forward? Let me know in the poll:
