Reserves Praised After West Brom Win

Keith Bertschin has praised his reserve side for putting in the ‘best (performance) of the season so far.’

Quick goals from Ollie allen and Asa Hall got the reserve team a much deserved 2-0 win over local rivals West Bumwich Albion.

Even the experience of John Hartson, Nathan Ellington, Steve Watson and Rob Edwards couldn’t get Albion back into the game against our second string.

Speaking to the official site Bertschin said:

‘I said to my team before kick off that it was a great chance for them to match themselves against some big names and that’s exactly what they did.

‘We were definitely the underdogs so I said we must make it competitive and the tempo must be good.

‘We started very brightly and caused them plenty of problems by turning people round and running towards their own goal.

‘We got a good goal through Ollie Allen after about eight minutes and then the ball dropped to Asa Hall for another good finish and we’re 2-0 up after 25 minutes.

‘Either side of that we had other chances as well which we didn’t take and things could have been different had it not been for a great save from Colin Doyle.

‘They got through one-on-one with Doyle and he stayed big for a long time before reading where their player was trying to place the ball and dropping on his shot.

‘Had they scored at that point I think we would have been under a little bit of pressure, but we held on and could have scored even more goals.

‘Without a doubt it was our best performance of the season.

‘The attitude they showed was spot on and consistent individual performances by each player transferred into a good team performance and it all came together.

‘Every player played to the top of his ability and it’s not often in a season you get a chance to say that.

‘We knew that Hartson and Ellington would be tough and competitive would have a few tricks up their sleeves – particularly Hartson.

‘But Marcos and Sam were more than a match for them.

‘At half time Kilkenny had to come off, he’d turned his ankle in a challenge, but I don’t think it’s too serious and hopefully it will settle down quickly.’
