Report: Blues handed boost in hunt for new boss as candidate shows interest in holding talks

|

Don’t call it a comeback. Actually, you can if you want to.

Could a former Blues player be on his way back to B9, only this time in a different role?

According to a report from Sky Sports, Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer is not only one of the candidates for the soon to be vacant role at St Andrew’s left by Pep Clotet, but Bowyer himself is interested in taking on the role due to the chaos that is constantly above him at the Valley.

Although why he thinks the situation at Birmingham would be any easier given what goes on in the boardroom is anyone’s guess.

Bowyer of course played close to 100 times for the Blues and was part of the team that won the 2011 League Cup.

It certainly would be a bit of a bold move, especially given the apparent parameters that the club have put forth in recent days, (most notably ‘experience and maybe the odd promotion’) but if the more experienced names aren’t available, then they might be forced to look elsewhere.

Should the club be going after Lee Bowyer?

Yes

No

Whilst it might not be a promotion out of the Championship, it should be pointed out Bowyer did manage to get this Charlton side promoted out of League One, so he does at least have that in his back pocket.

And the fact that he has managed to get them in such a position despite what is going on above his head at the club, might mean that put in a better situation (not a whole lot better, but still an improvement) and with arguably better players (many of whom with plenty of Championship experience), then he’d be able to flourish a little bit more.

All in all, I think that this seems like a match made in heaven, and whilst he might not be near the top of the list of ideal candidates, he’s probably nearer the top in terms of realistic ones.

What about you? Do you think the Blues should chase after Bowyer to be the new boss?

Well there you go Boys, if ever you wanted proof that this mob who run our club have no intentions of building the club into a sustainable PL Club here it is with the quote ‘experience and maybe the odd promotion’! I think we should all give serious thought as to whether its really worth following a club with no ambition other than perhaps getting the occasional promotion…from Division1 or 2!

Really think Bowyer would be a good choice myself, I was impressed the way he turned Charlton round and got them promoted last season, has the passion and think he would do a good job.
