Welcome back to the third and final edition in this series, titled ‘Relegated’. In the last section of this trio of articles, I will be looking at the MK Dons squad and deciding on three players who I think could make a difference to the current Birmingham City squad.

In the previous two parts of this series, I have looked at bottom club Bolton Wanderers and 22nd placed Charlton Athletic, both of whom had some very promising players who I felt could really make a difference to our squad.

Now it is the turn of the side in-between those two, the Dons. They returned straight back to League One following their unsuccessful campaign in the Sky Bet Championship and although their squad may not look like much, I believe I have picked out three players who could boost our chances of reaching the play-offs next season.

1. JORDAN SPENCE.

The 25-year-old defender had a tough time with the Dons this season but given the right guidance, I think he could be an excellent player to have in our squad, especially as we are a little light in the defensive department.

He managed to keep seven clean sheets in 36 appearances this season for MK, which isn’t a bad stat when you look at where they finished, and I think if he was mentored by the right coaches then he could be a very good defender.

A plus side to this defender is that he is a free transfer after the relegated side opted not to give him a new deal so I imagine that if Blues did make a move for him then it could move pretty quickly.

2. BEN REEVES.

The former Southampton youth player had a bit of a fractured season but despite that, he still managed to find the back of the net four times in 22 appearances in both league and cup.

For me, Reeves would be a good option for us to have and even though he still has one year left on his contract with the now League One side, I believe that if the right offer was made then he could potentially be prized away from them.

However, I do have to question my own judgement here, would he offer us anything on top of what we already have? Potentially! It’s not to say that he would go straight into the side but given the right playing time, I think he could be a good asset for us.

3. NICKY MAYNARD.

The 29-year-old striker signed for Karl Robinson’s side on the 22nd of September 2015 but despite having a fairly good season for them, he has opted against signing a new deal and he is now a free transfer.

If a deal was to happen for the seven goal forward then I would imagine that contact has already been made between the representatives at Birmingham City and the personal who represent the Englishman.

Maynard has plenty of Championship experience and even though his age may put some people off offering him a contract at their club, I think he could do a job for us and given the chances, I know he will be a 15-goal-plus striker.

Out of the three players that have been mentioned, I think Maynard would be a good shout for us because Rowett has highlighted so often since the season has finished that he wants to bring a striker in and for all we know, there could already be a deal in place for him.

Blues fans, out of the three that have been mentioned, which MK Dons player would you most like to see at Blues next season? Let us know in the comment section down below!
