In the second edition of our three part series ‘Relegated’, I am going to look at three players that Birmingham City should look to sign from Charlton Athletic.

The club is currently in turmoil with their owners and the fans are not happy at all and following their relegation into the third tier of English football, I think there could be some really good bargains to be had from their squad.

Although the squad may not look like it has much quality in it, on their day, the Addicks could beat anyone, as it was shown when they beat Middlesbrough at the Valley and they also did the double over Blues as well this season.

Within their squad, I believe there are some hidden gems and I have picked out three players who I think could really change the way Blues play next season.

1. JOHANN BERG GUDMUNDSSON.

The 25-year-old has arguably been Charlton’s best player this season, scoring six goals for them in the league and as well as being an Icelandic international, I also think he can now call himself a tried and tested Sky Bet Championship player.

Although he hasn’t been part of the most successful season, he has been one of the shining lights and I really started to notice him making strides in the team when Blues played them at the start of April, a game which the home side won 2-1 and Gudmundsson scored in.

Throughout the season, the AZ Alkmaar man only missed five games in the league which proves that he is able to go the distance in the league and I think he would be a real asset to have alongside Diego Fabbrini.

2. MORGAN FOX.

Blues have already been linked with the young defender and I actually think this is a move that could happen during the summer transfer window because we are most certainly on the look out for more defenders as Gary Rowett has highlighted himself.

At the age of just 22, Rowett would be able to nurture the Addicks academy product into a fantastic full back and I think if he had the complete faith from the manager, then he could really rival Jonathan Grounds for that left back spot.

Fox is currently valued at around £250,000 and is somebody that is well within our price range and because Rowett has openly admitted that the left side of defence is somewhere that he wants to have more options then a move for the young man could certainly happen.

3. CALLUM HARRIOTT.

The five feet, six inch striker spent the first half of the last campaign out on loan at League One side Colchester United where he scored seven goals in 23 appearances but he later made an impact in the championship when he returned to his parent club.

After making his Addicks return in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, Harriott went on to make a further 18 appearances, scoring three times in those games and again at the age of 22, I think he is somebody who can really progress at Blues if we were to make a move for him in the summer.

Harriott’s current deal with the London based side expires in just over a months time and if Blues act quickly then I think they could really bag themselves a bargain as he is somebody who has real potential and I think he suits our style of play also.
