Harry Redknapp’s comment that he knows ‘less about Birmingham City than any other club in the Championship’ doesn’t matter a jot.

If anything, it’s a good thing as his first team selection on Sunday will be based on what he sees in training this week. Every player has a clean slate.

If Redknapp had watched Blues in recent months, he may have been reluctant to accept the job, such was the hopeless nature of Blues under Gianfranco Zola.

Suddenly, there’s an excitement around the place. Players who had been frozen out have the opportunity to force their way back in. Players who had been playing and struggling to come to terms with Zola’s favoured tactics can look forward to a more simplified approach.

The four points he’s targeting to ensure safety is achievable with the personnel at his disposal.

With a bit of TLC, Redknapp can instill the confidence that has been sucked out of the players recently.

Hope. Something we haven’t had for a long time.
