Birmingham City take on Aston Villa this Sunday in what will be a hotly contested Birmingham derby (we hope). Blues have changed their manager for the occasion following the resignation of Mr Zola and the faithful are full of hope as a result.

One thing that was a huge concern to me as I sat in the stands last Monday was the reaction of the players when the second goal went in. They looked utterly bewildered. Hands on hips, no one talking to each other and all but no fight left.

After months of poor results and the complete fall from grace it seemed as though the players were mentally exhausted. Whilst they are not totally blameless in the poor form, it is understandable to be completely run down.

In light of the above, I was not hopeful for the final games of the season in these next few weeks. Then to my surprise the club announced Harry Redknapp as the new manager. This is a man renowned for his man management and getting the best out of players. Now it cannot be said that he will work instant results but I am now quite confident we will put up a good fight on Sunday.

Personally, a good fight against Villa is all I expect and from speaking with other fans, I am not alone in that respect. After the last four months we have a had, a draw at Villa Park will feel like a win.

With that said, a win would feel like a corner being turned, even if it is only one game of three cup finals. These players know hard work and still have an industrial core in the team, lets hope Harry’s setup gets us back to basics and back to picking up points.

How do you think Sunday will go?
