Reading closed the gap on Birmingham to four points last night when they beat Coventry City at the Madejski Stadium.
But the Royals had to come from a goal down to win the game after Danny Fox had given the visitors a 26th minute lead.
Reading fought back and a goal each from Noel Hunt and Kalifa Cisse meant that Reading went in for the break a goal up.
Hunt then added a third just after the hour mark and the game was wrapped up for the home side.
Reading face Barnsley next at Oakwell while Blues have a home game against Watford.
