Birmingham City have announced that Eddie Afonso and Simeon Slavchev are currently on trial with the club and that they could well feature off the bench in this afternoon’s game against Oxford United.

The game, which is due to kick off at 3pm at the Kassam Stadium, is made up of what is likely to be Harry Redknapp’s full first team squad, along with the two previously named trialists and Lazio midfielder Ravel Morrison, who is also on trial.

Whilst the majority of Blues fans know exactly what type of player Morrison in, not everyone, including myself, knows who Afonso and Slavchev are or what sort of player they are.

However, here are some basic facts about the pair, like where they play, who they currently play for and other interesting things that you may want to know about them.

Eddie Afonso

Age: 23.

Position: Left back, but he can also play left midfield.

Nationality: Angolan.

Current team: Recreativo Do Libolo.

How many international caps does he have? Currently, Afonso has made 11 appearances for his country.

Simeon Slavchev

Age: 23.

Position: Central midfield.

Nationality: Bulgarian.

Current team: Sporting Lisbon.

Has he every played in England before? Yes, he had a very brief loan spell with Bolton Wanderers in 2015. However, after just one appearance, Slavchev suffered a season ending injury which cut his loan spell short.

Is he what Blues need? At 6ft 1, he would definitely be a physical presence in our midfield but if he came in, he would really have to battle to gain a first team spot.

Blues have a lot of midfielders in the squad at the moment but with two, maybe three set to leave the club, could their be room for Slavchev, only time will tell.
