Lukas Jutkiewicz is an ever present in the Birmingham City team after making his loan deal from Burnley permanent in January. Currently Blues’ top scorer with 11, Jutkiewicz is a key part of squad. But how does ‘The Juke’ compare to Blues’ previous loan strikers?

CARLOS COSTLY

The Honduras international played eight games for Blues on loan from Belchatow in 2009. Despite not scoring a goal, he was known for his ‘dummy back heel flick’ which was screened on Soccer AM’s skills section on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, that’s where Costly’s contribution ended – he was ridiculed by many fans and is often described as one of the worst players ever to represent the club. He even had a song dedicated to him. “He don’t score goals, who gives a f**k, we found Carlos Costly on back of a truck”.

MIKAEL FORSSELL

The ‘Force’ was one of Blues’ more successful loan signings. The Chelsea striker joined Blues on a temporary deal in 2003 and was an instant hit with the fans. He scored 19 in 37 games during his loan spell. The deal was made permanent in the summer of 2005 but from that point, Forssell was hampered by injuries and only scored 18 in three seasons before leaving to join German side Hannover 96.

MATT DERBYSHIRE

Derbyshire joined Blues on loan from Olympiakos in 2010. He went on to score three goals in 20 games and was part of the team that was relegated under Alex McLeish. Derbyshire was a hard working striker who was the victim of circumstances and a negative style of play. He joined Nottingham Forest from Olympiakos the following season.

KYLE LAFFERTY

The Northern Ireland international signed for Blues from Norwich City last season. After a promising debut goal, Lafferty struggled to cement his place in the team and only went onĀ  to make a further five appearances.

NICKLAS BENDTNER

The great Dane was a loanee from Arsenal. Having scored 13 in 48 games for Blues in 2006-07, then manager Steve Bruce tried to sign him to no avail. Bendtner has forged a fairly successful career for himself but has never hit the heights predicted of him in his early days. The self proclaimed ‘greatest striker in the world’ is currently earning his money at Nottingham Forest.
