The game against Preston North End is going to be a crucial game for Birmingham City as I feel it is a game against a solid Championship side.

Alex Neil`s men are coming into the game off the back of a comfortable 3-0 win against Cardiff City that showcased their attacking capability as well as their defensive prowess.

In seven leagues games they have only conceded two goals (the joint best defensive record in the division alongside Leeds United).

This is not good news for a Blues side that have found goals hard to come by, and we are now the lowest-scoring team in the Championship.

What is worse for us is the injuries sustained against Leeds.

With Jota and Che Adams sidelined, our attacking capabilities are severely reduced and I think we will find it hard to score.

Leeds was a bright performance though, and some players such as Jeremie Boga and particularly Cheikh N`Doye seem to be gelling with the squad and understanding Harry Redknapp`s playing style.

Southampton loanee Sam Gallagher has only shown profligacy in front of goal, but I believe he will start finding the net sooner rather than later.

Another notable performance was that of deadline day signing Maxime Colin, who proved his versatility with a great display on the left flank.

If Harry again opts for a 4-2-3-1 (and I don`t see why he shouldn`t) then we should expect some more buccaneering overlapping runs that worked well against Leeds.

If we are going to push for the playoffs or (more realistically) top 10 then we need to be winning these fixtures.

Preston have had a solid start to the season with a smattering of wins, draws and a loss.

It all depends on if we can break our rut in front of goal.

We still have some room to manoeuvre as we are still early in the season, but such leniency whilst our new-look side find their feet won`t last forever.

There is a lot of quality and optimism surrounding our team at the moment, but we haven`t beaten Preston in seven games, and they should not be underestimated.

It will be a tight game I think and after Preston`s showing on Tuesday I don`t think we will get all three points. I predict a close 1-1 draw.
