Birmingham City travel to the James Parnell Stadium tonight to face off against Kevin Wilson’s Nuneaton Town. The National League North team will be hoping to get back on track after a tumultuous 2014/15 campaign.

Gary Rowett’s men are fresh and fit following a very hot training camp over in Spain. Birmingham City are eager to continue their rise through the Championship ranks that saw them finish 10th last season.

Rest assured that the team will be playing at 100% in order to win tonight’s game, kick off 19:45. Rowett has prepared his squad and laid down his expectations for all of the preseason fixtures – win.

‘We wouldn’t accept the players training at 50 per cent, so I wouldn’t expect them to play that way.

‘I think it is important that very, very early on we show the desire in the games regardless of who we are playing and when the game is.’ Said Rowett

There will be two teams of 11 taking part tonight, at half time they will change. It will be the squad that traveled to Marbella and the addition of ‘one or two’ others.

Bcfc.com also confirmed that trialist Rostyn Griffiths will be with the squad tonight. Previously of Australian side, Perth Glory.

‘He’s a 6ft 2in midfielder, a big, strong boy.’

Preseason games can certainly be very deceiving, the level of opposition often doesn’t allow you to learn much about the quality of the side under real competitive pressure.

Additionally, even when playing the larger sides, there is no guarantee they are up for it in the same way they would be if the game were for points. It is very difficult to get an understanding of the team outside of its competitive environment, which is exactly what preseason usually is.

That is why I think Rowett is making it clear to the players that they need to be approaching these games in the correct frame of mind. He wants to find out as much as he can during these games. Just how will the players respond? We’ll find out tonight.

Yes Nuneaton are a team that should be respected, every team should, the game itself however should be a arriving at one conclusion, even with a complete change of 11 at half time.

Should this be a straight forward win tonight?
