Birmingham City travel to Cardiff tomorrow to contest another game in the Sky Bet Championship. Blues are hoping to do more than just limp over the line, whilst Cardiff are hoping to end a winless run that is almost their longest since the second world war.

Cardiff lie one place ahead of Birmingham in 14th place having performed strongly on the road during their poor home form. They are without a win in 7 at home and have a win ratio of 40% from their last 20.

Considering their last 6 home games, there are three loses to the likes of Derby, Charlton and Wolves. Charlton are certainly around the same expectation level as Birmingham and seeing that they have won there, and arguably Wolves too, then there is the possibility that Blues could do the same.

Hampered by many injuries the Cardiff team are light on the ground. However I won’t be passing any sympathy onto the home team. They still boast the likes of Peter Whittingham who can turn a game on its head when he is on form.

The left footer stared in Cardiff’s last home draw with Bournemouth and laid on an assist for the Welsh team. He has 5 goals and 8 league assists this season and will be a threat to Birmingham. A player that favors distribution over over dribbling he will need to be marked tightly to shut down the space he needs to play the ball.

Birmingham have not been having a good time on the road just lately. Despite scoring 2 goals in their last 3 away games, they are still winless in 6. With 2 defeats in their last 3 they will be hoping to pick up a win sooner rather than later.

Last time out their clinched a 2-2 draw with high flying Derby that would have felt like a win, but the player’s and manager won’t need reminding that 1 point isn’t the same as 3 over the course of the season, no matter the feeling at the final whistle.

Gary Rowett continues he remarkable stablisation at Birmingham and central to that is getting players like David Cotteril performing at the top of their game.

Last time out the winger got on the score sheet but remained a liability for his team defensively. Blues are also suffering from mistakes made at the back, something that had been kept to a minimum until Michael Morrison was injured.

We’re still waiting for the team news so when we have it we’ll update this article for you.

Prediction? A draw looks very much on the cards but I want to be more positive than that, 2-1 away win.
