Birmingham City (17th) meet Brentford (7th) at home todaay. Both of the previous meetings between these two have ended in a draw, whilst in the grand scheme of things, Rowett’s side are winless in 8.

The main debate for today will be which formation Blues go for. Rowett opted to shake things up with a higher 4-4-2 against Ipswich which allowed Ipswich the room to score 4 against what is usually a solid deeper team.

I think Rowett should go back to a 4-2-3-1 approach, allowing the team to sit deeper and attack on the break. Whether that will win the game or not, it will make us much more likely to keep a clean sheet and have a chance of winning the game.

David Davis has been a big welcome return for the home site, he could remain in the middle with Gleeson and Shinnie may be back in behind the striker.

But will that striker be Donaldson or Thomas?

Both strikers looked dangerous against Ipswich, but at what cost to the team.

Brentford’s team performances are not rated much higher than Blues and it could be a close game in terms of personnel. The away team like to kee the ball and have a high pass accuracy stat. Suggests lots of short passing and possession play.

Birmingham have the edge in the air today and may well get more joy out of going wide and hitting Donaldson in the air to get the goals.

Birmingham have not won in their last 3 at home but I don’t feel they are far away from getting back on track. Disappointing results against Norwich, Millwall and Middlesbrough will be easily forgotten with a win today. Blues were close to a result against Norwich and Boro.

Brentford are on a good run, hence their lofty league position, they have won 4 of their last 6 on the road. But are on the back of a 3-0 battering by Charlton in their last trip away from Griffin Park.

Don’t hate me for sitting on the fence here but a home win is just as likely as an away result in my view. Each teams game management could play a big deciding factor today.

Brentford’s goals come heavily from Gray, who has 10 so far this season. But Jota, Pritchard and Toral will all be looking to add to their 5 goals so far. All in all they have 10 different scoerers this season, sufficiently dangerous through the team.

My prediction for today, a 1-1 draw, even though I doubt many want to see another draw. It is an improvement on the last two results.
