Pretty Football Won’t Work

Neil Danns has said that pretty football won’t work in this league, despite fans thinking that’s all it’s about apparently.

Speaking to the local press, Danns said:

‘Some people think that this league is all about pretty games and nice flowing football. It’s not.’

Which is nice, albeit slightly confusing. I don’t actually know any fan who thinks the Championship is where you see fast, flowing and silky football. In fact one of the most important pre season gripes from fans was that Blues would need to battle and our ‘stars’ had clearly shown through relegation that they couldn’t stomach the fight.

I suppose this is a throwback to fans complaints that games have been dull and un-entertaining to be honest. Which is well within a fans rights, especially paying the prices we do to watch football at Blues.

However entertaining football doesn’t mean playing like Brazil, it means players being proud to wear the shirt and dig in; sweating blood for a result is just as enjoyable for most.

‘When you go to the likes of Man United you will have those games. In this league, though, everyone is just fighting to get out of it and we know that.

‘It took us a bit of a while to get used to that fighting, but now that’s what we are doing. We are picking up points and I don’t think anyone can argue with that. It’s seven unbeaten for us now, with six wins.

‘I just think that it’s down to character, there came a point where we all took on board what it takes to get out of this league.

‘We know what it’s like, we’ve discovered what we have got to do and it’s paying off.’
