Potential Birmingham City XI for 2016/17 EFL season

With Birmingham City finding out on Wednesday how their season will pan out after the announcement of the EFL fixtures, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take a look at who could potentially be in our starting XI for the next campaign.

After it was revealed by Birmingham Mail blogger Shane Ireland yesterday that Robert Tesche is close to signing for the club, I thought to myself, what would our starting line up look like should Gary Rowett acquire all the targets that we are rumoured to be interested in.

After careful consideration, I believe that Rowett might actually look at changing the formation a few times over the course of the season and I have picked three starting XI’s based on potential signings and the players we already have in our squad.

Down below are each of the formations that I think could work for the club next season, each of which will be numbered and titled with what the formation will be.

FORMATION ONE: 4-2-3-1

Kuszczak

Caddis
Morrison
Shotton
Grounds

Kieftenbeld
Tesche

Cotterill
Fabbrini
Maghoma

Bradshaw

FORMATION TWO: 4-3-3

Kuszczak

Caddis
Morrison
Shotton
Grounds

Kieftenbeld
Gleeson
Tesche

Cotterill
Bradshaw
Donaldson

FORMATION THREE: 4-4-2

Kuszczak

Caddis
Morrison
Shotton
Grounds

Cotterill
Kieftenbeld
Gleeson
Maghoma

Wilson
Bradshaw

Out of the three formations that I have highlighted above, I would personally like to see us try out the flat 4-4-2 formation because at home, I think we need to be more assertive next season and more dominant on the ball.

I know that isn’t Rowett’s style of play but maybe he needs to change it whilst playing at St.Andrews because our home form needs to improve this season.

Leaving Clayton Donaldson out of the Blues starting line up will always be tough one for Rowett to decide on but if both Tom Bradshaw and James Wilson arrive at St.Andrews, the pair of them up front could be one of the deadliest partnerships in the division.

Blues fans, out of the three formations that have been pointed out in the article, which one would you like to see us play with next season? Let us know in the comment section down below!
