Yesterday (31st), Scottish newspaper the Daily Record were reporting that a trio of clubs were tracking 21-year-old striker Denny Johnstone, a move that could prove significant in the development of another young forward, Nicolai Brock-Madsen.

Johnstone moved to Blues in July 2014 for a small compensation fee which was paid to his parent club Celtic at the time but he has failed to impress during his time at St.Andrews so after several loan spells away from the club it now looks like he could be leaving on a permanent deal.

Hibernian, Kilmarnock and Dundee United are all supposedly chasing the signature of the former Celtic man, who scored 17 goals in all competitions last season whilst on loan at Greenock Morton, and if he does move on, then surely it is only a good thing for Brock-Madsen.

At the age of 23, for former Randers striker hasn’t really put his stamp on Blues either yet, but after only seeing him in flutters last season, we can’t really judge him because he hasn’t really been given much of a chance due to the fine form of Clayton Donaldson.

However, with Johnstone looking like he could be heading out of the exit door, now could be the time to shine for the £400,000 summer signing. It now means that if he is part of the under 21’s squad, he will only have two other strikers to compete with, the others being Alex Jones and Ronan Hale, both of whom could also push for first team football next season like Brock-Madsen.

Last campaign, the youthful Danish striker made eight first team appearances in all competitions, including a substitute appearance at Villa Park, but next season, if Blues adapt to play to his strengths, I believe that Brock-Madsen could really come out of his shell as a player.

The striker will get a full preseason with Blues under his belt this summer which will do him the world of good and with Gary Rowett obviously seeing something in him that we haven’t yet, we just need to give him time to adjust to what is a very physical style of play here in England.

Personally, I think his experience at the Olympic Games this summer will serve him well because he will come up against some of the best young talents in the world of football and because he will have played a few games whilst the season is going on, I think he will come back and give Rowett an extra option.

Although I believe that he won’t get many first team opportunities next season, if he is given the chances in front of goal when he does play, then I am sure he will take them and I am sure he will progress much further next season.

If things don’t work out for him between the start of the season and the halfway point in January, then it has been documented that he and his agent will seek a loan move away from the club if that is a possibility and I think that could also benefit him as well.

Blues fans, do you agree that Nicolai Brock-Madsen will come out of his proverbial shell more next season with one less under 21’s striker to deal with? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
