Birmingham City and Leicester City played out an entertaining five goal game on Saturday the 8th of August.

Unfortunately, Blues were on the wrong end of a second half turn around as goals from Robert Huth, Danny Drinkwater and Shinji Okazaki gave the visitors a hard fought victory.

Stunning strikes from David Cotterill and Demarai Gray gave Gary Rowett’s side a deserved half time lead.

However following a string of changes in the second half, Claudio Ranieri’s side took control of the game as Blues showed tiredness towards the end of the game.

Leicester then showed their class as they eventually finished their chances and the Premier League side walked away with the win.

The ratings below highlight how I feel the players performed in Saturday’s defeat to the Foxes. There is also a short summary of what I feel each player did well in the game.

Kuszczak 6- Possibly his best game in a Blues shirt so far. Unlucky with all three goals.

Caddis 5- Struggled against Schlupp and didn’t really get forward much.

Morrison 6- Coped well with Vardy and Ulloa but didn’t adapt when Leicester made changes.

Spector 5- Looked shaky once again. May cause Rowett a selection headache for the weekend.

Grounds 6- Solid! Good defensively as well as offensively. Another big season is in store for the left back.

Kieftenbeld 8- Man of the Match! Looked quality alongside Gleeson. Comfortable on the ball and showed precision with his passing.

Gleeson 6- Did the basics well but gave the ball away far too many times.

Cotterill 7- Goal and an assist! A sign of things to come from the Welsh winger.

Shinnie 6- Found space well in the no.10 role as per usual! However, struggled to break past Huth who had him in his pack pocket.

Gray 7- Like Cotterill, goal and an assist! It’s going to be a huge season for the young winger.

Donaldson 5- Really struggled against Leicester defence. No notable shot on target. Poor performance but looks set for a fruitful season.

Substitutes:

Arhtur 4- No time to make an impact on the game. Held ball up well though.

Toral 5- Good touches and found space well when he replaced Shinnie. Could be a good buy for Blues.

Davis 5- Like Gleeson, did all the basics well and retained possession where he could.

Novak 4- Beaten in the air to easily and failed to make any sort of impact at all.

Maghoma 4- Did little with the ball when he had it and looked uncomfortable against Premier League opposition.

Blues fans, were you at the game? How do you feel we played if you were there? Do you agree with my opinions? If not, let us know why you don’t in the comment section down below!
