Player Ratings Vs. Burton Albion

Birmingham City lost 2-0 against a strong Burton Albion side on Saturday at the Perelli stadium. The home side got what the victory that they deserved after a very lackluster performance by Gary Rowett’s men.

The Blues were never really in the game and despite a few chances that should have been tucked away, goals from John Mousinho and Phil Edwards gave the hosts a deserved win, which meant that it was the first time that the Blues have lost this preseason.

Below are the ratings that I would give the players based on their individual performances during the game.

Kuszczak 5- Had very little to do in the game but when he needed to perform, he failed to do so. Positioning was poor throughout the game. Still a lot more to improve on for me.

Caddis 6- Not much to say about Caddis’ performance. Looked weak in defence and not much better when attacking. His accuracy with his crosses was poor and it certainly wasn’t one of his best games in a blue shirt.

Morrison 6- Similar to Caddis, not one of his best games. Lacked confidence when going in for tackles and got beat far to easily in the air on too many occasions.

Spector 5- Once again the American looked poor at the heart of the defence. He was out paced, out muscled and just out played in all aspects of the game.

Grounds 6- Looked poor going forward but sturdy at the back. Won his battles in the air well and on the ground but still not his best performance ever.

Gleeson 5- Gave the ball away far to many times in midfield. Failed to find that killer pass on several occasions and just looked poor when on the ball.

Davis 5- Like Gleeson, Davis failed to get hold of the ball and find the pass to break open the Burton back line. However, he was strong in his tackles which showed he had a little bit of battle in him.

Gray 6- Yet another performance where Gray hasn’t done an awful lot but the things he has done have been good. With all the potential he has, games like the one on Saturday should be the ones he is looking to do his best in, but he failed to do so.

Novak 6- Struggled to find his feet in the middle of the attack. No real room for him to move as a centre attacking midfielder so for me he has to stay out on the wing or his performance levels will almost definitely drop like they did on Saturday.

Maghoma 4- Failed to really make any sort of impact on the game. A few quick bursts down the wing which produced corners but other than that, a very poor game from the former Burton Albion man.

Donaldson 5- Missed two absolute sitters in the second half which he just cannot miss in a championship game! Both from within the six yard area which needed to be slotted home. Other than those opportunities, Clayton had a very quiet game.

Substitutes-

Thomas 4- Didn’t really have much time to make an impact on the game and had very few touches of the ball.

Brown 6- Looked strong when in possession of the ball and found passes that Gleeson and Davis couldn’t. However, he still gave the ball away far to easily.

Arthur 5- Like Thomas, he didn’t really have enough time to make the impact he would have liked but he did do well with the ball at his feet at times.

Cotterill 5- No end product from the Welsh winger and he failed to even look like a championship player. Poor performance from Cotterill.

I have not selected a Man of the Match for the game because for me, quite simply, there was not one player on the pitch in a blues shirt that deserves it. A poor performance all round and one that Rowett will want the players to quickly put behind them.

Blues fans, do you agree with my opinions? Or do you think I am being to harsh? Were you at the game? If so, what did you make of the performance? Let us know in the comment section down below!
