Blues striker Kevin Phillips is hoping to be donning a Birmingham City shirt again when his side take on West Brom in the Midlands Derby.

The Blues veteran goal scorer has been out of action Since Blues took on Real Mallorca in a pre season friendly at St Andrews, but the news today is that he could be back sooner than hoped.

Phillips knows that he won`t be ready for the Liverpool clash but is hoping to get back into the action on 18th September.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Phillips said: ‘The injury is fine. I’m not getting any more pain or symptoms.

‘It’s just now trying to catch up on fitness, trying to tick all the boxes with the medical staff.

‘We’re not far away. I’d say if you’re going to ask me when I will be ready, Liverpool on Sunday is probably a bit too soon.

‘I will need at least a week’s training with the lads. So I’m hoping to be involved in some capacity in the West Brom game.’
