Perhaps I wasn’t being tough enough, the time for change is now – Opinion

Regulars to this site will not be surprised to see that I’ve brought this subject up again.

I would probably have done so even if he didn’t make that error against Wigan on Tuesday, but he brought the discussion into the mainstream as a result, so it just added to the necessity to write this.

I’ve called for Camp to be dropped numerous times, but I don’t think I’ve paid as much attention as to who should replace him. I’ve given a list of options, but never been 100% committed to one keeper over another. I even suggested he is on his last chance when it comes to tomorrow night’s game, however having gone back and thought about it, I was probably being too lenient.

In the immediate aftermath of the Wigan game, I believed it should be David Stockdale, because I’ve pointed out before that statistically he is better than Camp, and should have been the number one from the start of the season based off that alone, but then I came across this tweet which gave me pause for thought.

I must say he makes a convincing argument, and it’s because of him I’ve officially had my mind changed, because I can be that easily swayed sometimes. When we step out to face Middlesbrough tomorrow, I believe that we need to play Moha Ramos in goal.

As I said yesterday, our defence has not been our downfall in recent games, it’s been the mistakes. If we can get those out of the way, and keep our defensive play at the same level, we’re shouldn’t be exposing him to that many shots, so it won’t be as if we are throwing him in at the deep end and expecting him to deal with a barrage of shots.

Let’s give him a game to see what he can do in the Championship, and if he’s a success keep him there. If not, then we’ve got the whole of the upcoming international break to find a solution with the other options at the club.

What about you? Would you stick with Lee Camp in goal for this game? Would you make the change after the international break? Or would you not make the change at all?
