Birmingham are interested in signing Abel Hernandez from Hull City, according to Vital Blues reporter Tom Heslop.

The Uruguayan is out of contract this summer, and there are said to be up to eight Championship clubs pursuing his signature.

Fans are mostly pleased to see us linked with such a high calibre striker but some question whether we’ll be able to afford his wages:

Supporters were also sceptical over Aston Villa’s potential interest. Steve Bruce’s side have tracked the striker for a couple of years but their current financial siutation would likely mean they are out of the running:

Verdict:

The departures of four loanees, as well as the possible sale of both David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak, will likely free up a significant amount of our wage budget.

However, Hernandez’s demands are said to be pretty excessive, and if we were to offer a substantial salary, there would be questions over how we could afford to sign other players.

The 27-year-old’s record in the Championship of 28 goals in 49 appearances shows a prolific forward at this level, and the question will be whether his goals are worth the hefty outlay.

  • He isnt a number 9 he’s a number 7, 8,10 or 11 player so would need to be alongside a number 9. Vassell is anything but a 9 and we need to see if he is any good after his injury. So although the juke will do a good job and work his socks off we need another number 9 for options and cover. Cant see him getting 75k a week even with his goals ratio.

  • Gazel how do you vassell isn’t a number 9 he only had a handful of games and looked mightly impressive by the way I personally think these on paper could rip defenses apart in this division

  • Hernandez signing would take us back to square one with player unrest.Redknapp started it with disparities of players wages with Roberts,Stockdale,Jota,Gallagher etc .all adding to the last awful season. Just cannot see Monk tolerating this no matter how good a player is.

  • Also need to remember that if Butlandvis sold we have extra funds coming in.
But please do the one thing that 99.9% of Blues supporters want ,and that’s Ndonkey gone ,that guys not worth the minimum wage.
