Wigan defender James Perch is adamant that the Latics will confirm their place in the play-offs, not minding one bit if they sign Blues championship death certificate.

Wigan have lost their last to games, one against Burnley and the other rather more surprisingly at home to Blackpool, but if they can beat City their place in the top six would be certain with a game to spare.

And Perch would rather himself and the rest of the Wigan side did the job at St Andrews on Tuesday rather than wait until the last day of the season.

Perch told the Wigan official website: ‘We’ve got to try and bury Birmingham and secure our own play-off place.’

Birmingham are just as desperate for the points to save them from the drop into league one, but they have lost the last four games on the bounce, shipping in eleven goals in the process.

Perch added: ‘Birmingham lost at the weekend (at home to Leeds) and they’ll be low on confidence but they’ll have fight and spirit like Blackpool and we’ve got to conquer that and be ruthless.’
