Pep singles out this man for praise, should he show him a little more faith? – Report

I just need some clarification on this.

Whilst Jude Bellingham’s goal grabbed the headlines over the weekend, there was one area that Blues manager Pep Clotet was keen to point out did just as good a job against the Addicks.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the game against Preston on Saturday, Clotet praised goalkeeper Lee Camp for his efforts, but also the rest of the goalkeepers at the club for their work in keeping Camp in the condition that he is in:

“Campy made his first save in the 72nd minute, we were a good unit, the whole team did their job, all the ‘keepers we have at this Club are putting the hard work in – Lee Camp has been fantastic, a lot of the praise has to go to the goalkeeping department.”

I must admit, Camp has certainly impressed me so far this season. I know a lot of people have been giving me grief over my preference of David Stockdale, but that was born purely out of the fact that he was statistically better than Camp. I do still think that the club can do better in that department, just that Stockdale is the best option we have right now.

My question though, is that if Clotet has been so impressed by what he has seen from Camp, is it not time that he be given a new contract to show his faith in him?

That’s part of the reason that I’ve been writing so many articles about the future of the position, and pushing for Moha Ramos to get some game time. Both Camp and Stockdale’s contracts run out at the end of the season, so I’ve just been wondering what the succession plan is going forward.

A contract extension for either him or Stockdale would answer a lot of questions and at least give me an idea of whether or not they have a future beyond the summer.

What about you? Do you think that Camp has played well enough this year to earn himself a new contract going forward? Or do you think that the club could be doing better between the sticks and should be looking for options elsewhere?
