‘Our boy wonder’: How Birmingham’s victory over Charlton played out on Twitter

|

After the home side’s start to the season, I think we can officially put this one down as an upset

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the afternoon, other than the result came before kickoff. It looks as if Pep Clotet has been reading a couple of the articles on this website. He subsequently took on a bit of our advice as there were two big surprises in the starting lineup. Not only did he give a first league start to young Jude Bellingham, but also recalled Dan Crowley to the eleven, news that was greeted with much joy by the Blues fans.

Other than that initial surprise, the first half turned out to be a bit of a non-event as neither side managed to carve out any clear-cut chances, but the biggest one of the half fell to Lukas Jutkiewicz as both sides went into the break goalless.

Less than ten minutes after the break, the deadlock was broken and it was the flavour of the month Jude Bellingham who scored it, with a much more convincing finish than his first goal for the club against Stoke the other week.

Thankfully that was the only real event of the second half as despite the host’s best efforts to get back into the game, they were kept at bay as the Blues held out for a superb victory against the team sitting second in the table.
