Swansea manager Roberto Martinez admitted that his side could have got something from the game had the players taken their chances when they came along, otherwise he could not fault his side.

‘I am very proud of my players but you get nights like this and everything seemed to go in Birmingham’s favour,’ he said.

‘We started at a very high tempo and after scoring so quickly we could have added at least two more.

‘I was delighted with the start we made but then we let in two very soft goals partly because we were without Leon Britton and Ferrie Bodde.

‘They are the heart of our midfield and could be out injured for several weeks so
it is a huge price to pay.’
