Despite signing Marc Roberts just over a week ago, Blues have been linked with another central defender.

Derby`s Richard Keogh is the name rumoured to be on Harry Redknapp`s list as he looks to further strengthen an already well stocked defence.

And that’s the main reason why Blues should stay away from signing the 30-year-old.

In Roberts, Michael Morrison and Ryan Shotton, Blues have three excellent centre halves that are all top Championship defenders.

Admittedly, on his day, Keogh can be a solid defender and has served Derby well over the years but we’ve already got a sturdy bunch of centre backs.

Add into the equation Paul Robinson and Jonathan Grounds as cover and it’s clear that competition is healthy in that area.

It’s good to have options, yes, but that’s something we already have in that department. Redknapp should look to strengthen in other areas of the pitch.

I`ve also never been totally convinced by Keogh and he’s certainly a player that divides opinion.

Perhaps sometimes his desire and determination to win gets the better of him on the odd occasion, but that’s just my opinion.

But getting back to the point, it’s time for Redknapp to prioritise other positions that need improving- starting with up front.

The 70-year-old would’ve no doubt wanted to get at least one extra body in before the squad headed off to Austria today for their pre-season camp, but that wasn’t the case.

I’m sure there is plenty of work going on behind the scenes to get those players through the door but in regard to Keogh, it’s a no from me.
