Opinion: Why Blues’ latest injury news could cause them problems going into next season

|

It’s good news, but in all honesty, should any of it be relevant to us going forward?

That’s the question we need to be asking ourselves right now after Pep Clotet’s recent injury update.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of today’s game with Queens Park Rangers, the Spaniard gave us some news regarding a number of first-team players and their steps on the road to recovery. Some of them were long term, whilst others were a little closer to making their comebacks:

“Josh McEachran is in today after surgery, he will start his recovery now. Kerim Mrabti is already training with us, he is showing a good level of fitness. Jacques Maghoma is going to need a little more time. It looks promising.”

Now whilst McEachran isn’t exactly an issue for now, it’s the updates on Mrabti and Maghoma that are fascinating to me, because the way things are going, I can’t imagine that either of them are going to get any game time with the run we’re on in recent weeks, 12 games unbeaten in all competitions and counting.

How many of the next four games will we win?

Which brings me to my next point, should that be the case? Because if the team stays as they are, then how are they going to make enough of an impression to get themselves into the team next year? And with Scott Hogan only being with us on loan, it’s possible that there’s going to be a hole to fill in the team, but we won’t know who’s going to fill it until the summer when we’re forced into it.

So it’ll be interesting to see how Clotet deals with it going forward. Does he keep things as they are, or will there be a few changes to the side as we go on through the latter stages of the season?

What would you do in this situation? Would you make changes to the team, or would you keep things as they are for as long as you can and readdress in the summer?

If it’s not broken don’t fix it. I wouldn’t renew any of them. Maybe Camp on a 1 year.

When we are mathematically safe then perhaps give Reid and Fernandez a run out to see what they are capable of, dont think Maghoma has much left in the tank ttytt so personally would not renew contract, I cant make my mind up about Mrabti sometimes he is really good sometimes a non entity so perhaps use as a squad player, Hogan hope we keep him

I am old enough to remember back in 1979 when Trevor was sold for £1m. We bought international players
Frank Worthington, Archie Gemmill, Colin Todd, David Langan, Alan Curbishley with the money and got promoted in 1980.
My point is that if we receive an offer anywhere near £30m for Jude then for the good of the club as a whole we should accept it.

With the club owing approximately £100 million to parent company Birmingham Sports Holding Limited (BSHL) I cannot see that any money realized from the sale of Jude Bellingham will end up in player purchases next season. Hope I’m wrong …

Get the points in the bag for safety and we will see some of the young guns getting some game time. Pep can then evaluate them and plan for next season. I think we will see some of the old faces leaving to trim the wage bill and a much younger squad.

I am late to this we are only 3 points off safety if results go our way. We are desperate for a win but can only get drawers. I don’t think Pep will be assessing the situation next season I think he will be done. If we can get 30m + for Bellingham
I would say take it. The money owing to our owners does not need to be paid back it’s on the Never Never it’s put down as loans to avoid tax and fair play rules. If the club was to win promotion which is what they want the loans would be paid off automatically. I doubt it but I’m hoping we get a good offer of 50 million for Billingham. The biggest clubs in the world are looking at him so it is not unrealistic.

And if you believe the stories that Dortmund and Bayern Munich are ready to push the price up to 75 million euros that is a good 50 million pounds. I hope the stories are true. But I understand he’s only Paper Talk at the moment.

But that is the sort of money that is good enough to get us what we need and get us promoted and sort out problems out once and for all. And I’m sure Bellingham as a blues supporter would consider any move that would put us in that situation. KRO
